Czech households could, over the course of a year, end up overpaying for electricity by more than 1.3 billion crowns due to non-transparent network charges. This is indicated by an analysis by bezDodavatele, which has the ČTK.
According to the analysis, the vast majority of households that have tariffs D01d and D02d have a non-transparent network charge. Through these, households may overpay over the course of a year, and the greater number of them, as the analysis shows, do not know about the overpayment.
The analysis by bezDodavatele reviewed 1,132 addresses of households with the most common tariffs D01d and D02d. According to the data, which were provided by the Energetický regulační úřad (ERÚ), the tariffs may lead to overpaying by 65% of households from the total number of 6.5 million households.
The author of the analysis also points out that the households cannot change their electricity tariff. The material also notes that it may be possible to reduce the amount of the overpayment by switching to a different tariff, but the exact amount depends on the specific situation.
General director of bezDodavatele Libor Holub explained that the company has already seen that such tariffs can lead to overpaying, and it is possible to prevent it. The material also says, however, that it is not possible to determine the exact amount of the overpayment, and the company is unable to verify it.
In the analysis, the overpayment is calculated based on the difference between tariffs, which may be around. The analysis suggests that 53% of households pay a higher network charge tariff, which results in overpaying 728 crowns on average per year, while in other cases it may be less.
As a result of the model, the overpayment for households from tariffs D01d and D02d according to ERÚ totals 1.9 million crowns. The material also states that the final amount of the overpayment could be 1.3 billion crowns per year.
The largest overpayment is in the Prague area, where the analysis shows that the tariff zone PREdistribuce for the network charge leads to overpaying for 68% of households. For the distribution zone EG.D, which covers the Moravian-Silesian Region, the share of overpaying households is 51.5%, and for the distribution zone ČEZ Distribuce it is 46.3%. The material also states that in the distribution zone ČEZ, the average annual overpayment for households is 833 crowns.
The material also notes that the amount of the overpayment may depend on the specific distribution network. Libor Holub explained that the overpayment occurs because the distribution charges are set in such a way that it is impossible for households to notice it, and therefore the company is unable to change the network charge tariff.
